Recruitment setup
Bring participants from your recruitment service
Turn on one open link for your study and paste it into Prolific, Sona Systems, CloudResearch Connect or Qualtrics. ConductCognition records each participant's ID from the link and sends them back with a completion code or redirect when they finish.

How the open link works
- 1
One link for the study
Turn on the open link in the study's Recruitment panel and choose your recruitment platform. Each person who starts the study from the link becomes a participant.
- 2
The service adds its ID
The recruitment service adds each person's ID to the link. ConductCognition saves it as the participant's external ID, and saves any other parameters you list, such as a study or session ID.
- 3
A code or redirect at the end
After the last test, the participant sees your completion code or goes to your completion URL with their ID filled in. People who decline consent can go to a screen-out URL.
Before you launch
- Participants need Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Timed tests need a desktop or laptop with a mouse or trackpad. 17 untimed tests also run on tablets, and 15 of them on phones. 27 of the 47 tests are timed; the test list marks them.
- Open the link yourself before you launch and finish the tests once. A test run uses one participant place or credit.
- Set a participant limit in the Recruitment panel if the recruitment service could send more people than you need.
- After the first participants, check the Study Quality Monitor for sessions that need review.
Questions about recruitment
Does it work with services other than these four?
Yes. Any service that sends people to a link works. Choose Other (one link for everyone) and add ?id= with each person's ID, or choose Custom parameters to name your own ID parameter and up to 10 more parameters to save.
Can the same person take part twice?
A returning participant ID continues the same participant record, without a second charge. Without an ID, the browser keeps the participant's place for that link, so a refresh does not create a new participant. Use your recruitment service's own settings to block repeat sign-ups across studies.
Does a person who declines consent or leaves early use a credit?
Not if they leave before agreeing. On the open study link, a person counts toward your participant limit, or uses a credit, when they agree to the consent form, so people who decline, or leave before that, are not counted. Someone who agrees and stops partway still counts. The participant limit in the Recruitment panel counts people who agreed.
Which IDs are stored and exported?
The participant ID parameter becomes the participant's external ID. Other listed parameters are saved with the participant and exported as url_ columns, for example url_STUDY_ID. Score and trial exports also show participant_source, open_link or researcher_link.
Does it work with Amazon Mechanical Turk?
Amazon Mechanical Turk permanently closed on September 30, 2026. CloudResearch Connect and Prolific are covered by the guides on this page.
Who can use the link?
Anyone with the link can join while the study is active. Replace link creates a new link and stops the old one; people who already joined keep their records.
