  • Masked Priming

    Masked Priming Task

Measures how a word too brief to see speeds recognition of the same word. A row of hashes, a lower-case prime for about 50 ms, then an upper-case target: participants decide whether the target is an English word. A short check after the task shows how visible the primes were.

  • Artificial Grammar

    Artificial Grammar Learning

Measures learning of the rules behind letter strings without being told them. Participants copy 16 strings of letters from memory, then learn that the strings followed rules and judge 48 new strings as following them or not. The main score is the percent of new strings judged correctly.

  • Sentence Verification

    Sentence Verification Task

Measures how quickly people check a sentence against a picture. Participants read a short sentence about a star and a plus sign, such as "The star is not above the plus sign", then press F or J to say whether it is true of a picture of one above the other. The sentences vary in negation and in above or below, and are shown in the participant's language.
